My display tank has been up and running for a year this month. :( Don't have much to show for it but I have well over 1000$ invested into it. This darn hobby costs to much for students lol. On the plus side I always have A LOT of time to research before I buy so I've only had one loss which was a yellow tang and for no apperant reason.

I know how you feel about college funds with fish tank. I think your tank is looking awesome tho.

Also, most reefers wait a year to get some corals and such, so you are right on track :D

haha well if you decide to go for a coral instead of a frag, I'm sure you could find a stripper cheaper.

I didn't want to clutter up the "how well does your tank run" thread so I'll put my comments here. Dude, your rock work is friggin' awesome. All the little hidey holes and caves will make for an awesome reef - shrimp - stars and even the fish will love it. Do you have any corals yet? I may have missed it in the pic.

What part of the country are you from? Just curious if you are near by because if you are I would happily hook you up with some frags to get you started.

I live in waterloo, ON, Canada. Not sure where you're from I got my fingers crossed for Ontario as well or maybe even Buffalo or Sue Saint Detriot area? Thanks Took a long time and a lot of money to get all the rock. I have started getting some coral I have 1 head frag of Candy Cane, about 8 heads or plyops or w/e their called of Zoa 'green bay packer' colours and a purple mushroom. I litterally just got them in my tank on April 3rd so I decided to get the thread up for the tank conditions and for people to hopefully watch how my tank grows because of my water conditions and not how the corals die :P.

I really have no idea who to use.. I have a Fedex - UPS and USPS within a mile of the house so any one would be cool with me. I even have a box that I got live fish in that I could reuse. It is a box with a foam cooler.

Okay, I'll look into FedEx cause I have one right around the corner from my house. I'll PM you when I'm ready and get your details and stuff and figure out how to pay for the shipping and have you send it.

Now back to the tank. I was having an out break of Red Cyno, but I seem to have fixed the problem rather fast. All it took was stopping my PC lights as the bulbs were old I think is the cause. The Cyno is not viturally non-existant in my tank and I just took one rock that had it pretty bad and scrubbed it the a tooth brush. All seems well.

Also I have decided to go with the DIY LED fixture. I will be getting 24 3watt LEDs Dimmable drivers. This will equal a 250 watt MH light, but will only cost roughly 260$ to build. When I save enough cash and order it I will do a thread in the DIY with lots of pictures incase you guys ever want to try it yourselves. I will also be taking a copy of my electric bill from one month with the current T5 lighting I am using and then comapring it to a months use of LED and show the savings and then I'll figure out how long it will take for the fixture to pay for itself. This is the company I will be using rapidled.com

You should def keep us updated on how those LEDs work, and see what you can grow at the bottom of the tank.

Alright boys, I'm back and at it again! After a move and complete tear down of my tank it's time to get it back up and running. I'll be taking some pictures of what I am doing but as of right now just wanna let you all know of the equipment and stuff that I am 'starting' with for the 'new' tank. I decided to get myself a protien skimmer as I want to get more into the coral aspect of the reef this time around and also made a sump actually just finished it tonight. So my equipment is as follows
1 68 Gal Tall
1 Coralife Super Skimmer 65
2 Koralia Evolution - 750
1 550 gph water pump (cheap no name)
1 300 watt heater
1 6 bulb t5 light with 6 led moon lights Just ordered so I'm waiting impatiently for it to ship.
1 25 gal long sump 3 compartments with refuge and light.
1 Mag 5 return pump.

As for live rock I have about 150 lbs of it 20ish crabs 6 snails 3 Naserius*** horrible spelling but I'm tired and don't want to google the correct way  I've built my own restarting siphon and spray bar. I will be posting pictures of everything as I put it all back together and I'll try and get a write up on the build process of the sump, siphon and spray bar.

So far I have no fish left as I started to hate my Clarki clowns and I lost everything else except a damsel the clowns and a chromis in the move. My wish list for fish is:
2 Ocellaris or Percs (which do you guys think?)
1 Flame Angel
1 Coral Beauty
1 Manderin Goby
1 Royal Gramma
1 Jawfish
Last but not least 1 Yellow Tang

That's my plan so far I have the tank drained and ready to be cleaned the stand 'rebuilt' to accomdate the sump now. Most of the hard work is finished and now comes time for the fun again with aquascaping and the :( slow wait to add all the fish.

Let me know what you guys think and I promise pictures by the end of the weekend.

On a side note my buddy who has the 112 gal reef finally got his LEDs up and running and they look great! The par readings he's getting are unreal and his coral growth is pretty good. He has all types of coral except SPF growing on the bottom of his tank. We're waiting to build a frag tank now that we've figured out how to work with acrylic before he gets into trying his luck at SPF.

List of fish looks awesome!

Tell me about the flame angel and coral beauty... I thought that they were not reef friendly?

I kept my Coral Beauty with the small amount of coral I had. My best friend who has the 112 has both of those in his reef, with a lot more coral than mine for probably 5 months now and there hasn't been an issue so I'm going to try my luck at them.

Well I promised pictures so here's a few from rebuilding the stand and putting the tank back together.
Image
There's a reminder of where I was about a year ago.
Image
Had to have a few brews while doin the big job.
Image
All drained and cleaned up a bit
Image
Finishing touches on my spray bar and the old legs for my stand
Image
Got the stand refinished so I could fit my sump under it and have room to work and fit the skimmer
Image
Leveled out the stand got the tank up and taped the background onto the back of the tank.
Image
Got a great surprise while building the lights came! I was super impressed it only took 2 days when the eta was 5-10
Image
Image
Got the plumbing done for the over flow and started to aqua scape
Image
Finished! All cloudy but you all know how it is.
Image
I aqua scaped more for coral this time instead of rock work I'm hoping a year from now I can show you all what I see in my head.
Image
Moon light LED
Image
With the Flash on

So there's where my tank stands so far. No Live Stock other than my clean up crew. I'm going to get another few pictures up of the entire plumbing and a good picture of the sump with the fuge, and a picture of the main tank with the lights on.
