I didn't want to keep you guys waiting so here are a couple of quick snaps I took 2 hours after the lights have been off so the corals as you can tell aren't puffed up or even open all the way. I'll take more tomorrow. But I'm tired and a little depressed after doing that quick little break down on the $ I've spent . ah who am I kidding it was worth every penny!!

Thanks bud. I just started to dose with vodka so we''ll see how things go. I want to eventually get Bio Pellets but 13$ bottle of vodka is a lot cheaper than Bio Pellets so that'll have to do for now.

Nice looking corals. I see we have similar tastes. Frogspawn, Candy cane, zoas. Good stuff. :lthumb:

Rush I agree we have very similar tastes in corals. However I am having the hardest time ever with my Zoas. I can't keep the Effin things alive. I went from the frag in the picture with about 20 heads to 6 heads and it's now covered in a white film. I've since moved both frags and my BSP to a hospital tank while I wait for a little brown diatom outbreak to bugger off. I'm hoping I can recover my Zoas but I don't know if the reef gods like me I've tried to keep them before and they have died on me. I'm really stuck on how to take care of the darn things.

What seems to be the main problem? In the picture, they look pretty good. Are they open during the day? Is there something in the tank bothering them? Where are they in the tank (bottom, middle, up high)?

Okay, I guess I really need to get a picture of it for you guys. They have litterally disappeared. I had them on the bottom of the tank with low flow. In the hospital tank they are on the bottom under T8 single bulb marine glo. It's only a 5.5 gallon tank so the lighting it fine. I really don't know the main problem all water levels are 'ideal' I did see a blue legged hermit crab always by them maybe he ate them? I'll try my best to get a picture up for you guys tomorrow to show you what the white film looks like on them. It's covering them but there are still about 6 heads alive so maybe it's slime and protecting itself while it heals? I really don't know.

I'm no Zoa expert, but I've always brushed slime of my frags, or picked them up and shook them a bit... seems to me anything on the polyps will prevent them from opening up. If none of the polyps are opening then they are not healing. My hermits are a pain as well and are always crawling over my zoas... I might just leave one or two in my tanks and get rid of the rest. I haven't found them to be particularly good at cleaning anything anyway.

Okay so quick little update here. I lost the Zoa's, they just disapeared in the hospital tank I have no idea wtf happened to them. The main display is perfect and doing great. My cheato nearly tripled in size since the last time I cut it down so it got another hair cut and about 1/4 of it went into the hospital tank. My Frog Spawn is FINALLY starting to open up like it should and one of the heads is starting to split. The Candy Cane is looking as great as ever gets so puffy during the day it's incredible and all the fish are doing well. The Clowns are still growing and getting fairly big.

I am looking for idea's for my next fish. Just to refresh everyone's memory I have 2 clowns, 1 Bicoloured Blenny, and a lone wolf chromis. I will be getting a Blue Caribbean Tang and a Powder Blue Tang and maybe a yellow but all 2/3 will be added at the same time after all other fish are added to the tank and the 90 gal is set up.

In the mean time any idea's on other fish for me to get I'm thinking at this point either a Jaw fish or some type of schooling fish, maybe another pair of clowns? I really do want a pair of black clowns. I dunno let me know guys!

*Edit* After looking at the body styles of the two tangs and them both being Acanthurus I don't think that they will work together so I also need idea's on another genius of Surgeonfish and a vote on which one you would rather keep the all blue or the powder blue.

I've always liked the Achilles Tang... not sure how big they get or how much they cost, but they have always caught my eye.

I do like them as well, but they are rare in my part of town. I've only seen my LFS have them in once. Although I'm sure I could get them to order one in for me. I will have to do a little research on them I'm not 100% sure if my 90 will be big enough for one even if they stay smaller.

So after reading up on the Achilles tang they are out. You need a pretty big tank for them even though they only get to about 6-8 inches. Apperently they are very very active swimmers. So for tangs I am going to go with Blue Caribbean and Yellow Belly Hippo and maybe a Tomini or Red sea purple.

News on the upgrade to the 90. I'm getting pretty close to doing the swap. All I am waiting for now is an upgrade on the skimmer then I am good to go. I'm thinking about asking the parents to pay half for christmas so we'll see.

Update on the tank as it stands I have some more coral and pictures!!! but you can't see them today  I'll get them posted tomorrow or tuesday.

It is Tuesday and almost Wednesday now.

Also, I would recommend the tomini, they have great personality and grow slowly. I think one combined with the Yellow belly hippo would work well, just make sure they are added around the same time.

Sorry guys! Last week has been super busy. Work finally is giving me some hours and just finishing up for the christmas break. I have made some progress on the stand that I'm building and will try and get an update in the DIY section. Also for pictures I'm going to be put off a little longer. I'm having a problem with that ~Violation of TOS~ green Hair algae again. My SeaHare died and it's all coming back, even though I'm still dosing with vodka and my levels are undetectable. It's getting really frustrating. I'm going to have to get a phosban reactor or something in the new year to fix this problem once and for all. Also my protein skimmer is being really stupid. It won't produce any bubbles I've cleaned the darn thing to the point it looks brand new again it works for 1 night then the next morning back to 0 bubbles. I dunno what the hell is wrong with it. Last time I buy Coralife skimmer, I guess that's what I get for being cheap on important equipment.

I would just pull the skimmer. I don't run one and haven't had any problems.

The GHA isn't doing much but growing a really slowly on 2 rocks, right now it's only about 1cm in height, and I haven't seen any new growth. Maybe I need to increase my vodka dosing and get the bacteria doing it's job a little better. I'm going to pull the skimmer and see if it's still under warrenty. It should be I don't believe I've had it running for a year yet, as a matter of fact it's only been since what July? I'll look back into the thread and find out forsure.

Sorry guys, my holiday's have been nuts haven't had a lot of time to do anything. A super quick update, Tank is doing alright I guess the GHA hasn't spread or grown much at all just won't go away. I'm also being forced to do the upgrade to the 90 a little sooner than expected but that's okay I wanted to do it anyway.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and an awesome start to the new year. I know I did! I'll be back on here regluarly soon once I get settled down into everything that's happening.

Roy good to hear from you :D That GHA can be a PITA, I had a friend who managed to eradicate his GHA with a lawnmower blenny. Might be worth a try.

I'm sorry to say but I have quit the sw side of things until I can actually afford the hobby. I got much to frustrated in trying to keep all the coral alive while battling the ever present green hair algae. If anything good has come out of it I did get a new Oscar and will be giving you guys a write up in the oscar side of the web site. I think you'll all be a little impressed with my current set up at least I am myself :D. I'm glad everyone's tanks are doing so well and I think I am going to get a small nano set up in the future very similar to Rush's tank probably around Christmas time. I'll post Pictures of my new set up in a couple days. Other than that I hope everyone is having a great summer and I miss talking to you guys but I've been super busy, we all know how that is.

I've downsized quite a bit as well Olroy. Someday I'll do it right with a 75-90g reef, but right now things are crazy busy in my life as well. Thanks for the update though. :lthumb:
