Help me stock my 30 gal?

Postby ArcAngel » Mon Jan 07, 2013 1:59 am

I'm back after a little over a year and now i got a empty 30 gal because of a bad babysitter.
So help me stock it my tank it has been a little over a week sense my bad babysitter happen.
Any ideas are welcomed! I would prefer not a single fish tank because i all have one for my red devil/midas mix fish.

If you've never tried Kribensis, give them a whirl. They are a dwarf African cichlid, although they are from some of the African rivers, not the rift lakes, so they do not have the hard water requirements of what we normally consider as an African cichlid. Four or so of them in a 30 gallon with some Congo Tetras would make for a nice tank.

Kribs I've never tried them either are they more durable then Blue Ram's because i was looking into blue rams they are really pretty but i heard that they are hard to handle with. Do you think i could do a group of cory's with the kribs and congo tetra? By the way thank you for posting :D

Kribs are tremendously more durable than Rams. Easy to breed as well. Cichlid parenting behavior is what sets them apart from other fish. Observing it is one of the things every hobbyist needs to experience.

I keep Cories with my Kribs. No problems there.

If you decide on Kribs one of the things you'll need to do that is a little unusual is get some small clay pots and lay them on their sides in the tank. They make good decoration but more importantly, the Kribs use them as houses and spawning caves. This video is of my tank containing Kribs so you can see what I'm talking about.

Tom... the Angel and Rasbora combination is normally my recommendation.

Probably note. They both inhabit the same area of the aquarium (primarily the bottom). If the Kribs spawen, they will be much more aggressive than the Rams. Might work in a much larger tank but not in a 3' tank.

If money is an object you don't want to see this. http://www.oddballfish.com/fish-aquarium-starter-packages/Starter2030.html

Fish Package Contents:
2 - Spiketail Paradise - Regular (1.5 to 2 inches)
4 - Dwarf Neon Rainbow - Medium (2 to 2.5 inches)
6 - Celebes Rainbow - Large (2 to 2.5 inches)
4 - Blue German Ram - Regular (1 to 1.5 inches)
2 - Longfin Albino Bristlenose - Regular (1.5 to 2 inches)

Here's what I'd do. Blow off school this semester, get a 90 g, and go for this: http://www.oddballfish.com/fish-aquarium-starter-packages/Starter6080.html You have the rest of your life to learn stuff. Welcome back.
