I got online last night to look at the Petsmart.com price on a new Stealth 150watt heater and learned that all the Stealth models had been recalled. A while back (year, year and a half....time has a funny way of blurring until I have no idea if things happened yesterday or last decade)...a Stealth 200 watter popped its top and killed Mr. Mean, my Con/Texas cross. After 3 decades plus (on and off) in the fish keeping hobby, one tends to get jaded about equipment failures and mysterious fish deaths....so I just chalked it up to one of those random equipment failures. Hated losing such a wonderful fish that way.

I just got off the phone with Petsmart...they will still accept returns on the Stealth heaters.....going to take the two 100watt heaters out and see what they have available. Still need to find a good 150 for my 30 gallon tank (I like to use an over sized heater or two smaller heaters that result in "over kill" as the temp seems to be more stable during the winter months).

OBIO

Play dumb when you go OBIO, the PetSmart by me took my first four with no questions asked, but when I took the last five in I had (after using the money from the first four to replace the Stealth heaters still in use) they balked a bit... well, more than a bit really. They did end up giving me the money because they had already set precedence in refunding the money the first time, but he said the first time was a mistake, that they weren't supposed to replace them unless you got a recall notice from them (not Marineland) in the mail. I call BS on that, but that's the stance the manager took.

I'd suggest the Aqueon Pro. :lthumb: I believe folks were getting this in Exchange. If you have not read the review on them, it may help explain.

after reading this I took a look at mine and sure enough it was made in china, it has since been replaced with the Aqueon Pro. I had to pay like 5 bucks difference but thats not too back for a heater. ;) Just VERY glad it did burst. it would send me to a new level of mad.

Holy crap! I had 3 of them in a 150 that lasted me like 5 years with never a problem....they must have sent manufacturing to china...glad I didn't replace them with the same product....don't remember why I didn't, I usually stick with a product if it proves reliable...Eheim is a perfect example, never let me down.

I think about half of us had them.
Wonder if they will still exchange them?
