I discovered this.... this week. Leave it up top the Japanese to create such a frigging bizarre monstrosity. A group called "BabyMetal", which is a very tight heavy metal/thrash metal band fronted by three young J-Pop girls. The mix is so bizarre that you catch yourself thinking, did I really just see and hear that? And it's no joke, the group has been on three world tours, playing Reading, Leeds, Download, and other festivals. Has opened 5 shows for Lady Gaga on her latest tour and is opening shows for Metallica on their current tour. That alone should show you something''s knocked all sensibility out of wack, placing the universa into an alternative dimensional vortex. or something. The same band opening for Lady Gaga and Metallica?

Before we get to the videos, below are screen shots captured from YouTube of peoples first reaction upon seeing this band. This should give you and indication of what your in for if you watch the subsequent videos. It's simply a juxtaposition that should not work..... but somehow does, like Fried Pickles,

Now..... for you to experience what those folks experienced. There are literally hundreds of videos of these guys online, I've selected a few I consider "the best".

Perhaps the most bizarre aspect of all of this is the obvious acceptance the Metal Community has for this odd mix. Perhaps because the band is so good, whatever. It's just bizarre, as evidence by this short clip of the group at the Reading festival, in front of a mass of hard core metal heads.

The band started when they were very young.... about 12ish. So it''s hard to tell their ages in individual videos. Most of of the posted videos the girl in the middle (Su Metal) is 15. While the girls on the left and right (Yui Metal and Moa Metal) are 14.

Regardless of their age, it's the fusion of hard core metal with J-Pop that is so bizarre. And the hard core headbangers banging their heads, jumping, and moshing in agreement. Bizarre it the only word I can think of. :scared2:

BTW: Their first attempt at breaking the English Market:

Most of the J-Pop is gone. Sounds a lot like Evernasance. Has promise..

Totally lost interest after the first clip. First for me hearing the term "J-Pop" as well. Sounds like a bad porn handle.

They have just started touring the U,S,, opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Trust me, you'll be hearing a lot more about them.

They're in Little Rock on April 24th. I'm considering taking the 2 hour drive. The Chili Peppers would be worth the trip, with BabyMetal as an added bonus.

Consider the source, me as a mid 50's rocker raised on real Rock and Roll. What a pile of crap. Music has been in a downward spiral for a long time. Nobody plays anymore, singers cant sing. Its computer generated, auto tune junk. Re Lady CaCa and the Super Bowl. Awful. At least it wasnt a 3-peat of Brutal Mars and Bouncy. Since when is shaking your ass and stomping your feet a musical act?? Metallica should be ashamed of their latest offering. Hardwired is 90% recycled garbage, but it sells because there aint nothin else out there. Old guy rant over and out. One P.S... saw Black Sabbath this past summer, and have in hand Roger Waters tickets for October 10 in Ottawa. Thats some concert money well spent.
1600gals of South and Central American cichlids. Some with just a "wee" bit of attitude!

Kmuda watching the RHCP, is this not a little to californish? :P

Well for Rock nRoll, was it not always changing from the Jimmy Hendrix to the Stones to Sabath to Metallica, Grunge in the early 90s to Nu Metal in the late 90s and than after 2000 this dozens of Sub Metal kinds from Emo, Gothic, Hardcore and what ever else?
It is may only a thing in what kind of period you had grown up so of course someone that was around while
Lynyrd skynyrds orginal line up played don't like that new stuff. :cheer:

I have tickets to the concert Lynard Skynyrd were in route to when they crashed. No one likes classical Rock more than I. I am hung up in the 70s, when it comes to music.

I am not a trash metal fan.
I am certainly not a Pop fan, let along a J-pop fan.

But for some bizarre reason, I like this stuff.

Front the same band with some roughneck dude trying to scream in a demon voice and I would care less about it. Somehow, those three girls fronting the band are so bizarre that it draws you in. A little like the 1960s Rolling Stones being described as "being so ugly they're cute:.

And the live energy is incredible. Those metal festival crowds are not easy to win over but this bizarre group has managed to do so, as evidenced by the crowd reactions in the online videos. It's the energy being transmitted from the stage that does it. There is some honesty in that energy, otherwise the metal festival crowds would be bombarding them with piss water.

From their most recent album, this group is all over the board, this time fusing Electronic Dance Music, techno-rock, trip-hop. and metal, Gone (from this track) is the "j-pop, resulting in a much more mature sound. Su-Metal really belts this one out.

Then you have Dream Theater meets Converge (progressive metal meats mathcore)..... with some really odd time signatures. Again. a much more mature sound.

For those who don't follow the various genres of metal music:
"Mathcore (also known as technical metalcore, technical hardcore and progressive metalcore) is a polyrhythmic and dissonant style of metalcore, recognized for a high level of technical musicianship."

And, driving 12,000 into a frenzy at Wembley Stadium
www.dailymotion.com/video/x542pse_babyme...a-2016-blu-ray_music

EDIT: Found a bootleg copy of the "Live at Wembley DVD" (same concert the above link is from), the girls had 12,000 bowing in prayer (the "we're not worthy" kinda thing) to the Fox God and my phone died. :bang:

This is much more recent and is significantly different. The girls are older (18 and 16), some of the "pop" is gone (some still there though), and much more crunch to the music.
