Here's a tip i picked up talking with a lady (customer not staff) at big als yesterday.

despite constantly rinsing my hydrometer after checking salinity, the needle will still be stiff, and i would get false reading.

Anyway, this lady said to soak the hydrometer in a solution of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part water, let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes and then rinse with freshwater.

So of course i tried this, and it worked great.

Thought I would share

Cheers

WL

For cleaning the hydrometer, Firstly to make it empty. After that carefully rinse it with more fresh and distilled water. The next step is to clean the hydrometer just with soaking it in the vinegar at least 25 minutes. Than repeat the rinse procedure and dry it for storing.
