A quick vid of my two Oscars, next month I have had them for three and a half years.
Film quality never quite that good but I get a new phone next month and hope quality is a little better.

Good lookin' Oscars you got there Ernie!! I really like the layout of your tank. I've always wondered what dark Oscars would look like with black substrate. About how large is each?

Thanks beretta I quite like the look of a dark tank as you can see.
Size wise the big one is a good 13 inches and the smaller one about 12inches.
Can't believe I've had them nearly three and half years, where does time go?

I agree, that are two solid and classic patterned looking Astronotus.
For the substrate, to anybody it's own but I think they would look even better o an dark or reddish sand substate.

Are they only accepting each other or could you observe allready some Oscar love in the water?

Toom quite like the idea of sand, have been thinking about a change for a while.
No Oscar love just two compatible females which is a good thing. Life is pretty calm in their tank.

If you want to switch substrate i recommend do it propper prepared. If so it is really a piece of cake.

I did it last time with an ruber Tube. All you need is a pump with hose that remove the water from the Tube to your toilet or garden a jute bag like you find in your local garden Center for maybe a Dollar or two and an 1" or bigger hose.

I vacumed the substrate just from the tank into the bag that ended into the bag. The bag was sitting un the ruber tube.
Water leaves the bag but substrate stays inside.

The removing was 100% done with an 90% water change.
After the bin was emptyed and died a little bit up i could remove the old substrate with the back without dusting the whole room or house in fine gravel and Sand.

Damn fine Oscars. Good for the how-its -done portion of the program. Still a lot of white membrane around the fins. Still growing, awesome. Good job Ed
