Technically this is from 2017, but being that new years weekend here was 20-25 below zero, and wind chills in the -50 degree range I'm going to put an asterisk next to this pic and put it up anyway. Its cold. Lol.

But that means were making good ice! When the little guy and I went out to catch this pike, there was probably only 6-8 inches of ice. For December here, that's thin. And in fact up until this past weekend with the frigid temps it had been a mild start to winter. Hovering around the 20 degree mark for several weeks. That's baby town frolic for us northerners. But the freeze is on now and soon people will be dragging their 16-24 foot permanent ice houses out. Complete with dish satellites, bunks, and coffee makers inside to stay warm and satisfied... pansies. I still actually sit on the ice when I ice fish... :bitchslap:

Anyway, who else has been getting out? Who's catching fish?

That's awesome, congrats on the catch. I hadn't ice fished since I was about 13 years old. I live in NJ and bought new gear last winter but we never had any ice.

Took my 14 year old out on Sunday for a little bit. 5 inches of ice but we didn't catch anything. Hope to get back out this weekend.

Awesome! Ice fishing is more of a test of attrition than anything else really. Especially for the dads who do all the prep, setup and take down. Definitely share pics if you guys have any success.

Compared to the size of your boy this is a fricking beast pike. Like I said last year, he will be better than you in no time :P

Nice job. Limit is 2? Seems stingy. Pike are extremely prevalent here in the Midwest in most lakes.

Yup, 2 limit with a min size of 24". Seems like it should be higher since it's not a "trophy fish" for most people. Ice can be hard to come by in NJ so was great to get out.

Awesome. How much ice? You get them jigging or on a tip up?

8-10" of ice. Caught them both on a tip up, actually out of the same hole.
