So, I have a new Oscar.
I had one 20+ years ago and I just got the opportunity to get another.

My problem is that Sheep the Destroyer (my 4 year old named him) won't eat ANY of the pellet foods I've tried. From National Geographic to Hikari to Tetra..
He/she eats baby shrimp, and bugs, and fruit.
But no pellets.

Any advice on how to get him to eat some sort of staple, other than starving him out?

Thanks!

There is no way. You don't have to starve him. Just reduce feeding at 50/70% and mix your food with all that you offer with pellets.
At some time hunger will become more important as taste.

How big is the oscar? If you give them a choice, they will pick out what they like to eat and ignore the rest.

They are about 3 1/2-4 inches.
I started off JUST feeding them the pellets and they didn't eat, so I looked for other foods.
(bloodworms, baby shrimp etc)

So basicly just still Baby Oscars. How long you got them?
If they are only there for a couple of days than give them some time.

Oscars are like little kids.
If you put a bowl of ice cream on the table beside a bowl of asparagus, which one would a kid eat?
If all you offer is pellets, eventually the fish WILL eat pellets.
All that remains to be seen is who has more will power, you or the fish.

I have a different opinion. Oscars are more like garbage cans. If you don't addict them to an only one food type they will normally eat anything that hits the water surface.

I had feed mine any kind of soft fruits, fish, krill, gammarus, different quality pellet Brands from cichlid mixes at Medium size to herbivore malawi pellets. Bugs, Spiders, crickets but also mussle meat, non seasoned shrimps, calamari so basicly fruiti di mare. I even tried once a single Spaghetti and it was chocked down in a second. Oscars are one of the most greedy and always hungry big cichlids with very low standarts on food sources by there own choise what of course don't mean to feed them garbage.

I got the tiny pellets for him. I've had him for about 2 weeks.
He's already super friendly. If I put my hand in the tank, he'll swim over and rub up against me.

So, he's a bit bigger now and he still hates the pellets.
But, he'll eat them.
Or she...no idea really.

I spend time catching bugs for the fish, and I found a termite nest inside an old log at a house I am remodeling that provided SHEEP with a lot of meals!

How do people feel about raising/feeding guppies to the Os as a sort of treat?
My spouse is breeding guppies, so I sort of figure I will start poaching from the tanks :D
