So.. what's your opinion? A good solo tank species? How does it compare to an Oscar?

I haven't found a species that can compare to an Oscar in personality... Just not convinced that one exists... yet.

I find myself a bit disenchanted with the solo fish setup. It's just not the same as it used to be for me personally. I find myself much more drawn to my community type setups. I think in a 6ft 180g with a few rough and tumble tank mates, I'd enjoy this guy a lot more.

Looking back at the day I got these guys, it's pretty much the 2 year mark for Beast, my solo remaining H. carpintis 'chairel'. He's grown to be an impressive specimen, but is to aggressive to keep with anything else I have currently. I'll get some 2 year pics up here soon. :)

The blue colouring is so bright it doesn't look real. One mighty looking fish.

The color is equal in intensity to his assholeness. :)

Nothing final yet. Still kind of leaning towards letting him go. If my brother would commit to taking him, I'd give him up. But nothing solid yet. And I don't want to just flippantly hand him over to just anyone either.

He's starting to mouth the glass. He's got some pretty gnarly teeth. I tried to get pics of it, but he snaps so fast.

If it ever turns out that I still have him this spring/summer, I'd consider shipping him to a good home for the price of shipping... but that's on the back burner obviously. We'll see what happens in the meantime.

Looking great and he had come a long way. How big is he now, close to fully grown?

He's doing good. I think he has maybe another inch in him yet but of course that will take a few years for him to reach. I'd say he's close to 9 inches or so. Haven't ever done an official measurement on him though so take that with a grain of salt. He's still aggressive as ever though.
